forging a japanese tamahagane steel knife
20.05.2024 - We experienced in Japan the forging and sharpening of a Santoku knife, which we then could purchase and take home.
At the "Hirata" sword smith workshop near Tokyo, they produce in a traditional method "tama-hagane" steel out of iron sand, and use it forge various japanese knives like Santoku, Deba, Yanagiba, and japanese swords Tachi/Katana, Wakizashi, Tanto.
It was a unique experience! Our best thanks to Sukehira, Nodoka, and their "deshi" to welcome us and explaining the whole production process.
railstation automaton "la paloma"
08.03.2024 - This photo shows the musical mechanism geartrain of an antique railway station musicalbox, which is equipped with big interchangeable cylinders, bells, drum, dancing puppets and optional zither effects.
Each of the 3 interchangeable cylinders can play 8 melodies, including the tune "La Paloma" of the Spanish composer Sebastián Iradier.
Currently this musical automaton is displayed for musicbox aficionados in our >shop in Interlaken, Switzerland (please inquire before visiting). It's part of a private collection, not for sale. But we have many other musicboxes, singing bird boxes, musical pocket watches for sale.

07.05.2021 - Inspired by the color circle, Victorinox developed a colorful, new collection of the "Classic" knife model. From Fire Opal to Cotton Candy, there's a suitable color for everyone. In total, 30 different knife handles are available: 10x plastic (19 CHF), 10x plastic translucent (19 CHF), 10x alox (33 CHF). 8 new leather pouches (14 CHF) and silicon pouches (9.90 CHF) are available to store/carry your knife.

Our stock includes besides new items many special articles, which are no more available from the maker. 13.03.2020 - Victorinox launches in the next days for the first time a limited edition kitchen knife with damascus steel blade, price 599 CHF (Swiss Francs). The japanese shape blade "Santoku" is suited for any kind of food. The handle of the Victorinox series "Swiss Modern" is made of walnut wood. Each knife is individually numbered (engraved at handle), worldwide limited edition of only 1884 pieces (founding year of Victorinox). Therefore we expect that this knife will be sold out rather quickly and sought after by collectors. Unfortunately, this also means that we will not be able to provide all our regular customers with a knife. Victorinox item number is 6.9050.17J20
Please note: This knife is not a part of the existing Victorinox damascus knives series. We expect for April/May the introduction of the new damascus knife in the pocketknife category.

08.03.2020 - The Wenger watch collection surprises with the novelty "Urban Metropolitan Automatic", which offers an excellent value-for-price ratio. 03.03.2020 - The new Alox Limited Edition collection is available from 30 March 2020! This year's color is "azure blue". Not only the aesthetics of those knives impress, but also the durable, stainless materials for the handles and tools - no compromise.
Depending the use, over the time the base color (silver) of the aluminum handles may partly become visible through wear and tear. The patina of the knife will make your knife unique.

the railstation musicbox
22.12.2019 – Railway station musicboxes are ancestors of the jukebox and were used at railway stations to entertain people waiting for their trains.
In our shop in Interlaken (Switzerland) we have a railstation musicbox in operation. It is an important part of our company history, as it marked the foundation of our vast collection of musicboxes:
Made around 1890 and purchased by company founder Leon Luyten, it was placed during the days in front of the shop. The earned money was shared «pocket money» for employees, which they spent on ice cream.
In the early 1960s, it got broken and was out of order. Peter Alscher repaired the rail station musicbox and gained knowledge and access to the world of mechanical music. In the following decades he expanded the musicbox section of our company and his private collection of mechanical music objects. He shared his passion and knowledge with everyone who showed interest in it.

10.02.2013 - A new product in our popular vinyl series is this clip-shaped paper holder (12 CHF) for envelopes, letters etc. up to A4 size (paper thickness up to 3cm). The front side is narrower/lower than the backside, therefore the frontmost paper is easily recognizeable. All vinyl products made in our workshop in Interlaken (Switzerland).
